Los Angeles, CA—December 5, 2014
Chaka Khan is a true Renaissance Woman. A singer, songwriter, producer, visual artist, author, actor, philanthropist, entrepreneur, activist and mother, Chaka is an international music icon who has influenced multiple generations of artists and continues to do so. From the moment she burst onto the music scene in the 1970s as the 18-year-old lead singer of the multiracial band Rufus, her powerful voice and show-stopping stage presence set her apart from any other singer, and during her 40-year career, she has developed a vast international fan base and performed on six continents.
Alfred Music is pleased to announce the release of The Chaka Khan Songbook, compiling some of Chaka’s most influential songs in one collection just in time for the holiday gift-giving season. Drawn from her incredible 40-year, 22-album career, this songbook presents fifteen Chaka classics including “Ain’t Nobody,” “I Feel for You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Love Me Still,” “Once You Get Started,” “Stay,” “Sweet Thing,” “Tell Me Something Good,” “Through the Fire,” “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me?,” and “You Got the Love.”
“We’re thrilled to be working with our partners, Alfred Music, in presenting the first-ever dedicated song folio celebrating the music of Chaka Khan,” said Mark Fried, President, Spirit Music Group. “While fans all around the world know and adore Chaka for her voice, her artistry and the classic recordings she’s been a part of, many don’t realize that she is also a prolific song writer. The worldwide distribution of The Chaka Khan Songbook will ensure that her songs continue to influence and teach generations of musicians and music fans to come.”
Chaka is a ten-time GRAMMY® Award winner (with 22 GRAMMY® nominations) who has the rare ability to sing in eight music genres, including R&B, jazz, pop, rock, gospel, country, classical and dance music. She has released 22 albums and racked up ten #1 Billboard magazine charted songs, eight RIAA certified gold singles and eleven RIAA certified gold and platinum albums. Chaka’s recorded music has produced over 2,000 catalogue song placements.
The Chaka Khan Songbook will be available December 9, 2014 for $19.99 each at music retail stores, online retailers, and alfred.com. Review copies are available upon request.
