Tom Petty’s Wildflowers & All The Rest Debuts Top 5 on Billboard 200

October 26, 2020

Tom Petty’s long-awaited Wildflowers & All The Rest debuts at #5 on the Billboard 200 in its first week. The release surpasses the original Wildflowers which peaked on the Billboard 200 at #8 in 1994, while the 2018 posthumous collection An American Treasure debuted at #9. Furthermore, Wildflowers & All The Rest reaches #1 Top Rock Albums, #1 Vinyl Albums, #1 Tastemakers and #3 Top Album Sales.

Wildflowers & All The Rest, which can be streamed/purchased here, continues to receive widespread critical praise:

“It’s the definitive artistic statement that newly illuminates one of the most fruitful, inspired periods of the American legend’s career.” – Rolling Stone

“…the augmented Wildflowers is the best and most justified boxed set of this kind since the Beatles’ White Album compendium.” – Variety

“One of the geeky joys of Wildflowers and All the Rest is observing Petty at the absolute peak of his songwriting powers, making small, intelligent tweaks to these songs in progress.”  –New York Times

“There is comfort in knowing you can turn to Wildflowers. And now, you can live in it.” – Pitchfork

“Spread over five discs in its most expansive form, this collection offers the fullest glimpse yet into the process and brilliance of one of America’s greatest songwriters working at the very apex of his powers.” –The Ringer

“It’s a triumph we only hope Petty enjoys from behind the shimmery screen.” –Esquire

“The new box set Wildflowers & All The Rest, produced by [Ryan] Ulyate and curated by Petty’s bandmates and heirs, reimagines Wildflowers as the sprawling statement it almost was. A wealth of demos and alternate takes…illuminate a period of creative surge even Petty could never fully explain.” – LA Times

Wildflowers was originally envisioned as a double album in 1994 but Tom’s label encouraged him to hold back the second half of the project. Tom waited decades to share the second disc of his masterpiece with fans—a collection he named All The Rest.

The Wildflowers sessions were a breeding ground of prolific songwriting and recording, co-produced by Tom with legendary producer Rick Rubin and Mike Campbell. Now all 25 songs have been released as originally envisioned. This collection allows fans to see the entire recording process from demos, to the studio, to the stage and beyond. It is a complete look at one of rock music’s most unique and beloved albums.
